"I have been an Expatriate. I understand the challenges that exist with relocating internationally especially from a personal tax perspective. I lived in Zurich, Switzerland for a year, assisting with expatriate and foreign national tax compliance for a global banking firm. It was a great career and life experience and provided amazing insight in what my clients experience, which helps me best serve them each day."

Ian M. Faber started Faber Tax (July 2014) to bring that personal touch to the expat tax preparation and advisory process. In today’s world, global relocation can come in so many different packages. Yes, the traditional expatriate assignment and company relocation are main stays in relocating internationally, but that personal decision to experience a new culture and way of life is ever increasing. People aren’t afraid of taking that leap on their own and with that comes the personal responsibility of understanding that ever complex and evolving international tax realm.

Faber Tax focuses on providing expatriate and foreign national tax services to individual and corporate clients. Ian specializes in cost effective expatriate and foreign national tax preparation, foreign bank account/foreign asset reporting, consulting services and international payroll services to corporate and individual clients, pre-assignment/relocation planning through repatriation.

Prior to starting Faber Tax, Ian spent the previous five years as a Manager/Senior Manager at Global Tax Network, a firm specializing in international assignment tax services. His desire to go the extra mile for clients may stem from his own experience of working abroad in Switzerland or simply his enjoyment of people. Ian started his career with KPMG after two extended internships in their expatriate tax group and also spent a year at Ernst & Young in their Human Capital group. He has over 14 years’ experience serving clients in the expatriate tax and global mobility industry.

Ian loves to expand his cultural knowledge and hear the stories of individuals and clients working abroad and coming to the US. He places a high value on building those relationships and proving his effectiveness.

Whether he is completing a tax return or researching cost projections or state residency requirements, Ian is known for:

  • An easy rapport with colleagues and clients;
  • Going beyond order-taking to provide strategic recommendations and data;
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Ian is an enrolled agent that has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service. Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He has also spent two terms as Treasurer for the Delaware Valley Relocation Council, which is a professional trade association serving the relocation industry in the Greater Philadelphia area.

In his free time, Ian enjoys spending weekends in Ocean City, New Jersey with his wife, Melissa, children, Isla, Ian Jr. and Mathieu, and their chocolate lab, Ivy. He is a huge fan of ALL Philadelphia professional sports and claims it as his primary hobby and possible obsession.

"As the old saying goes, the world gets a little smaller every day. The international mobility of individuals has evolved greatly over the past 30 years along with tax systems that has carved out my career in this unique niche. Many things have changed in terms of international mobility, but the one constant is the people connection. In other words, our jobs as tax advisors still has a strong human interactions (we have not been replaced by computers yet), which makes our jobs both rewarding and challenging. Throughout my 18+ years of serving clients at various firms both big and small and being on the corporate side of managing mobility, the key to success starts with great relationships and everything that surrounds it."

Lee A. Schilling started with Faber Tax in January 2016 to support that personal touch to the expat tax preparation and advisory process that Ian created with Faber Tax. Based on experiences on both the service side and corporate side, Lee enjoys working with individuals and companies in regards to finding the right solutions.

Whether working on tax compliance issues, interpreting the IRS code and regulations, or advising companies on tax minimization strategies for assignment set up, Lee is known for:

  • A straight forward approach with transparency;
  • Takes time to listen and acknowledge the concerns and questions at hand;
  • Takes accountability along with a strong client focus

Lee is an enrolled agent that has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service.
